Upload a world you already have

Move a single-player world or an old server world onto your Minecraft server, then switch to it from the Worlds tab.

Updated 11 October 2026

Bring a single-player world or an old server's world across.

  1. In the panel, open the Console tab and click Stop. Wait until it says the server is offline.
  2. On your PC, find the world folder. On Windows it's in %appdata%\.minecraft\saves. It's named after the world and contains level.dat.
  3. Zip the world folder. One archive uploads far faster and more reliably than thousands of small region files.
  4. Go to the Files tab, make sure you're in the server root, and drag the zip in. For a big world, use SFTP.
  5. Click the zip and choose Unarchive. You should now have a folder containing level.dat.
  6. Go to Minecraft → Worlds and switch to the folder you uploaded.
  7. Start the server.

Check the version first

If your world was last played on a newer Minecraft version than the server runs, change the server's version to match first. Opening a world on an older version can corrupt it.
