AlienX Servers is now invite only. Why that changed
Invite-only UK game servers

Real hardware.
Invite only.

Dedicated game servers on symmetric UK fibre, run out of a homelab for a group of people who were invited into it. Members pay nothing and never have. There is no signup on this site, and no waiting list to join.

Closed to new accounts · Existing members keep their servers

"24/7" means the only reason we ever stop your server is a lack of activity on it. The seven-day inactivity rule is the one clock running — no renewal link, no advert to watch. It is not a guaranteed uptime figure: this is a homelab, so outages happen and the host gets rebooted for patching.

Why it changed

Open Signup Is Gone

This ran as an open service for years. Three things ended that, and none of them were caused by the people it was meant for.

What open signup brought with it

  • DDoS attacks aimed at the residential line this runs on — taking out a household's internet, not just a game server
  • Accounts created purely to host malware, using a free server as somewhere disposable to run it from
  • A "no support" rule that was stated plainly and then ignored, turning a hobby into an unpaid helpdesk
  • A ban being nothing more than an inconvenience, because the next account was thirty seconds away

What invite only fixes

  • Everyone with a server got here through someone who already had one
  • An invite can be traced back, so abuse costs the person who vouched as well
  • A small group that reads the rules is a group worth keeping the lights on for
  • Nothing changed for the members already here — same hardware, same allocation, same cost of nothing

The connection this runs on is somebody's home broadband. When it is attacked, the people living behind it lose their internet — that is the part that made an open door impossible to keep.

Everything included

Upload & Download Saves

Already have a world? Upload your existing save through the panel and pick up where you left off — and pull a backup out whenever you want.

Invite Friends to Help

Add sub-users from the panel so your friends can use the console, restart the server and manage files — without ever touching your account.

One-Click Deploy

Select your game and region, click create, and your server is installed and running within minutes.

Discord-Tied Accounts

A panel account is tied to a Discord account in AlienX's Place, and the role that unlocks it is now handed out rather than picked. Leave the Discord and the server goes with you.

What it runs on

Real Hardware. Somebody's Spare Room.

Not a cheap VPS sliced into oblivion, and not a datacentre either — enterprise kit in a rack at home, on a domestic fibre line.

900/900 Mbps Fibre

Symmetric UK fibre — the same speed up as down, which is what actually matters for a game server. No throttling on your server's connection.

Real Hardware

Enterprise kit in a homelab rack, not a shared VPS sliced into oblivion.

  • Proxmox cluster
  • NVMe storage
  • 256 GB RAM per node
  • Intel Xeon Platinum 8160 CPU

Pterodactyl Panel

Industry-standard game panel with a clean UI, file manager, console access, and resource graphs — all in the browser.

Mods & Plugins

Full filesystem access over the panel and SFTP. Install modpacks, plugins, datapacks and custom maps yourself — no curated list to wait on.

Live from the panel

Live Stock Levels

Slots are capped by the hardware, so every game has a fixed number of them. This is read straight from the panel and is here so members can see what is left before they plan something. A free slot is not an opening — creating a server still needs an account, and accounts are invite only.

Limits, Support & Community

The ground rules for the people who host here. The big one: you need to be in our Discord, and your server goes when you leave it.

Can I sign up?

No. The panel does not take public registrations any more. Accounts are created for people who were invited by somebody already hosting here, and there is no form, queue or waiting list behind that — if you are reading this page and were not invited, there is nothing on it for you to apply to.

Why did it go invite only?

Three reasons, all of them from the open-signup era. The line this runs on was hit with DDoS attacks, which takes out a household's broadband rather than just a game server. Accounts were being created to host malware and use a free server as somewhere disposable to run it from. And the "no support" rule — stated plainly everywhere — was ignored often enough that a hobby turned into an unpaid helpdesk. An open door made all three cheap to keep doing.

I used to host here. Can I come back?

Possibly. Former members are looked at case by case, and being here before counts for something. What it is not is a right, and it is not a conversation to open by asking repeatedly. Begging for a re-invite is an immediate and permanent no — that is not a negotiating position, it is just how it works.

Is it still free?

Yes, for the people who host here. Nobody has ever paid for a server and nobody pays for one now. Going invite only was about who gets an account, not about charging for it — there is nothing to buy, no tier to upgrade to and no card details anywhere.

What happened to the Patreon?

Gone. The supporter tiers no longer exist, nothing on the panel is behind a payment, and there is no way to contribute money towards this. If you held a pledge, it has ended and nothing you had is being withheld.

Do I need to be in your Discord?

Yes. Hosting here means being in AlienX's Place, and the role the panel checks is now given out rather than picked during onboarding. Stay in the server for as long as you want the game server: if you leave the Discord, your server is deleted.

How long does my server stay online?

For as long as people are playing on it. Your server runs around the clock, and the seven-day inactivity rule is the only clock running against it. If nobody plays on it for seven days we remove it to free up capacity, but it stays online for the whole of that week.

Is the 24/7 uptime guaranteed?

No, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. 24/7 means the only reason we ever stop your server is a lack of activity on it. It is not a guaranteed uptime figure: this is a homelab, so outages happen and the host gets rebooted for patching and upgrades. Nothing else on our side deliberately stops a server.

Can I have more than one server?

Each account gets one server at a time. To switch games, delete your current server and create a new one. If you are running a community or hosting an event, ask on Discord — exceptions can be made case by case.

Can I install mods and upload my own saves?

Yes to both. You get full file access through the panel and over SFTP, so you can install mods, plugins and configs yourself, upload an existing world, and download a backup whenever you want.

Can my friends help manage the server?

Yes. You can add friends as sub-users from the panel, which lets them use the console, restart the server and manage files without ever having access to your account. A sub-user is not an account of their own and does not come with a server.

Do I get technical support?

No. Servers are provided as-is with no technical support — you are responsible for configuring, managing and troubleshooting your own server. Other members are often happy to help in the Discord, but that is them being generous, not a support channel, and treating it as one is part of how we ended up here.

Does forever really mean forever?

Not quite. This is a hobby project with no plans to shut down, but there are no guarantees it will run forever. Just something to keep in mind.

Getting an account

How Access Works Now

There is no registration form to fill in. The panel stopped taking public signups, and this is what replaced it.

01

Somebody Here Invites You

Invites come from people already hosting here, offered to people they actually know. They are not requested, and there is no queue to join — if nobody has offered you one, there is nothing waiting to be applied for.

02

You Are Given the Role

An invited account is handed the Server Hosting role in AlienX's Place. It is no longer something you can pick during onboarding, so joining the Discord on your own does not unlock anything.

03

Register on the Panel

With the role, register on the panel using that same Discord account and set a password. Without the role, registration will not go through.

04

Whoever Invited You Is On the Hook

An invite is traceable back to the person who gave it. Abuse costs them their standing as well as costing you your account, which is the whole point — it is what an anonymous signup could never do.

If you hosted here before

  • Former members are considered case by case, and having been here counts in your favour
  • How you left matters — someone who played by the rules is in a very different position to someone who did not
  • Ask once, plainly, and take the answer either way

What will not work

  • Begging. It is a hard no, it is permanent, and it removes a "maybe" that might otherwise have existed
  • Asking again in DMs after being told no, or asking a different person hoping for a better answer
  • Offering to pay. There is nothing to buy, and money was never what was in short supply

Already Have an Account?

The panel is where your server lives, and the Discord is where everything else happens. If you do not have an account, neither of these will give you one — the invite has to come first.
